Red Robin E-Commerce Architect in Greenwood Village, Colorado

Based at our Greenwood Village Home Office, the E-Commerce Architect will design, implement, maintain and enhance an enterprise web services infrastructure that will be the heart of Red Robin’s online ordering and Guest experience platform. The E-Commerce Architect will work closely with technical and business stakeholders and our award-winning design partners to help define requirements and craft solutions that will power industry leading systems for our Guests and our Team Members.

At Red Robin, we are as serious about Guest experience as we are about our burgers. As such, we are working on our next-generation Digital Guest Journey platform and we’re looking for an architect who wants in on the ground floor. As the E-Commerce Architect, you will help us evolve our existing web services infrastructure by connecting our restaurants, our Guests and our data in a way that provides a flexible, transparent and uber-simple digital experience.


  • Build relationships with IT and Business stakeholders and Team Members

  • Gain a strong understanding of Red Robin’s business, values and vision

  • Achieve and maintain working knowledge of all business functions, key processes, schedules, and systems

  • Design services architecture

  • Build and socialize services roadmap

  • Document technical requirements and specifications

  • Develop RESTful services using Java

  • Define migration plans to address the gaps between current and future state

  • Perform proof-of-concept evaluations to assess capabilities and fit within architecture

  • Provide strategic leadership

  • Mentor developers and perform code reviews to ensure adherence to established coding and architecture standards

  • Coordinate with the Security team to ensure existing and planned services are reviewed and approved

  • Actively participate in the Architecture Review Board and change control process

  • Assist with test case development as needed

  • Assist with Support and Trouble Tickets as needed


  • 4-year degree in CIS, MIS, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience (required)

  • 8+ years of experience in designing and implementing technical solutions, including at least 4 years of experience architecting highly available distributed systems (required)

  • 5+ years of experience with three or more of the following technologies/systems (required):

  • E-Commerce Development/Management

  • Website Development/Management

  • Contentful or other Enterprise Content Management Systems

  • Java / J2EE

  • JavaScript / JSON / XML / AJAX

  • React or other single page application platforms

  • GraphQL or other API query languages

  • SOAP and RESTful Web Service design, development and maintenance

  • Integration Technologies

  • Loyalty Systems

  • Point of Sale (POS) Systems

  • Master Data Management

  • Experience working in an agile environment (Scrum, Kanban, etc.)

  • Experience in the restaurant, hospitality or retail industry is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Broad technology and architecture experience in the cloud, SaaS, or enterprise space, including system, virtualization, cloud, network, and/or storage systems (such as AWS, Heroku, Memcached Cloud, Postgres)

  • A passion for excellent user experience.

  • Mastery of tools and techniques for design and documentation of service or enterprise architecture, such as Visio, UML tools, etc.

  • Strong knowledge of Java 8 and Spring Framework (versions 3 and 4)

  • Able to translate business requirements into technical solutions

  • Proven ability to think strategically and communicate strategy to others

  • Strong understanding of IT operations, lifecycles, templates and methodologies

  • Experience in the management software and service lifecycles

  • Detail oriented and well-organized

  • Superior analytical, evaluative and problem-solving abilities

  • Able to build strong relationships with business and IT colleagues

  • Comfortable being part of a high-performance team working hard to overcome big challenges on tight timelines while maintaining work-life balance
